Ink Spots of Richmond Hill: Making Ink from Compost.
When: Saturday, January 31,2026 and Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where: Richmond Hill Mill Pond Gallery Admittance cost: Free About the Art Exhibit: This special art exhibit is part art show and part educational experience. It will feature eight different artists and approximately twenty-five ink paintings. These paintings are made using homemade inks from materials commonly found in your kitchen compost such as avocado pits, yellow onion skin, and grape vines. You will be amazed at the variety of rich harmonious coloured inks that can be made for free from discarded materials. Visit, discover, and learn what colours can be made from compost materials and homemade inks. This project is a recipient of a City of Richmond Hill Community and Culture Grant “Ink Spots: Making Ink from Compost” by Greg Chiykowski Come and join local artist, Greg Chiykowski, (https://artbygreg.weebly.com/) as he continues his deeper examination into the thrills of making your own inks. This year’s program, “Ink Spots: Making Ink from Compost” builds on the successes of last year’s program “Ink Spots of Richmond Hill: Making Ink from Locally Foraged Materials.” The Ink Spots program includes a public presentation (Monday, October 20,2025), a workshop (Sunday, November 9,2025), and an art show (January 2026, dates to be finalized) featuring various artists using these homemade inks. Ink Spots: Making Ink from Compost - Presentation Date: Monday, October 20, 2025 – 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, Cost: Free Location: Mill Pond Gallery, 314 Mill Street, Richmond Hill This presentation will focus on making inks from common materials found in your compost. Greg will discuss which compost ingredients are suitable for making your own ink, the ink-making process, and will have samples on hand to highlight the rich vibrant and sometimes surprising colour of homemade inks. Due to limited seating, the presentation is restricted to the first thirty registrants. Pre-register for the presentation by emailing [email protected] Ink Spots: Making Ink from Compost – Workshop Date: Sunday, November 9, 2024 – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Cost: $40 - Payment can be made by e-transfer or cash. Location: Mill Pond Gallery, 314 Mill Street, Richmond Hill Greg will instruct a half-day ink making workshop, focusing on ink made from common materials found in your compost. All participants will leave the workshop with two small, bottled samples of ink made during the workshop. Space for the workshop is limited to ten participants.
